EGYM changing the way fitness is done at Richmond Hill YMCA

Gym fanatics and beginners alike in Richmond Hill can enjoy a new era of technology to aid their workouts. 

The Richmond Hill YMCA hosted a ribbon cutting Monday afternoon to welcome EGYM technology, a move Stefani Mosquera, executive branch director of the Richmond Hill YMCA, calls “revolutionary.”

“We are so excited to finally bring EGYM to the Richmond Hill community,” said Mosquera. “This revolutionary system has already transformed fitness and positively impacted lives in other branches in our association across Coastal Georgia. Introducing EGYM at our branch aligns perfectly with the YMCA’s mission to promote health and well-being for all.”

Flat screens on equipment will guide users, detailing the amount of “muscle building” and weight they use should during their workout. Clients can also access a strength test to determine the appropriate weight-training program. 

“It’s not like your normal workout,” said Christoper Sweat, marketing and communications director for YMCA of Coastal Georgia. “It collects your range of motion, strength and agility as you go. It measures your strengths and weaknesses. If you have an issue where your knee or elbow is not working the way you want it to, it can adjust to you as you are working out.”

According to Mary Arocha, senior vice president of the YMCA of Coastal Georgia, the organization has onboarded more than 9,000 people to the new technology across six locations. EGYM was developed in Germany and eventually made its way to the states. The Habersham YMCA location also has EGYM technology.

“EGYM, which is only available at the YMCA, represents the future of fitness, combining cutting-edge technology with the Y’s commitment to inclusivity and community,” said Arocha. “We are excited to see the positive impact it will have on our members here in Richmond Hill, as we have seen amazing results in our other EGYM-outfitted branches.”
