Elderly man killed by driver in shopping center parking lot in Burbank

BURBANK – A 71-year-old pedestrian was killed in a Burbank shopping center parking lot Sunday after being struck by a vehicle.

The collision was reported about 1:45 p.m. Sunday at the Empire Center, located just west of the Golden State (5) Freeway north of Victory Boulevard, according to the Burbank Police Department.

The man, whose name was withheld, was hit near the Krispy Kreme restaurant and the Sephora store and suffered major injuries.

Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene, police said.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with traffic investigators. The cause of the crash was not immediately known, but neither drugs nor alcohol appeared to be factors, police said.

The incident remained under investigation. Anyone with information was asked to call Traffic Detective Ryan Murphy at 818-238-3103.
