Embrace la dolce vita at Fiat House, a new residential community in Fort Lee

If there’s one thing the Italian automaker Fiat is known for, it’s having a distinctive style, focusing on sustainability and embracing la dolce vita. And now, all three of these things have come together to create the world’s first Fiat-branded residential building right here in North Jersey, situated in the shadow of the George Washington Bridge.

A project created in partnership with the automaker and Unlmtd Real Estate, Fiat House is a luxury rental community in Fort Lee that features architectural and interior design elements inspired by the brand and the Fiat 500 model. This includes things like historic photos of Fiat through the years in the building’s main lobby and the use of vibrant colors, which are signature to Fiat’s modern brand.

The community, at 2100 North Central Road, has studio through two-bedroom units available — many of which are fully or partially furnished — starting at $2,400 per month. The first phase of the project, which consists of 178 units, officially began occupancy in June, and the second phase, with 131 more units, will be completed toward the end of 2024.

Residential units include things like luxury vinyl tile floors, built-in shades, LED ceiling lights, floor-to-ceiling windows and nearly 10-foot high ceilings. There are also built-in Murphy beds and desks for studios, as well as full-height closets, under-island cabinetry, bathrooms with custom millwork and panel-ready dishwashers and refrigerators. Some units also come with double-story loft designs and private outdoor spaces, entrances and balconies.

Gabrielle LoConte, development lead of Unlmtd Real Estate, said it didn’t initially have a partnership with Fiat when it began to plan and design the building in 2018. Given the location, she said, the company knew it would be a good opportunity to work with a prominent brand to create a one-of-a-kind residential community in Fort Lee.

“We thought a car brand would be especially fitting being that the building sits at the foot of the George Washington Bridge, the busiest commuter bridge in the world, with over 100 million cars crossing it each year,” she said. “When brainstorming car brands, Fiat was one of the first that came to mind. Fiat’s design-forward, space-efficient design has many parallels to our own buildings, with our smaller-sized but luxurious homes.”

LoConte said the firm has embraced the dolce vita lifestyle for which Fiat is known through amenities like a communal kitchen, gym, cinema, library and multi-purpose game room with a golf simulator, billiards and a card table, among other things. She said Fiat House also has a partnership with New York City-based Urbn Playground to host a variety of activities and events for residents, including food trucks, gelato and gym classes.

To keep up with these events, and to book concierge services like personal training and dry cleaning, all residents of Fiat House have access to an exclusive app with all of that information in one place.

Also part of this is the Fiat 500 Lounge, which will open in the fall on the penthouse level of Fiat House. Created by Italian design company Kartell, this space will give community members access to a more private outdoor space with views of New York City and exclusive benefits like soft drink services and an espresso bar, LoConte said.

Fiat’s focus on sustainability was also incorporated into the design of the community. LoConte said this includes offering a household goods rental program with Tulu, EV charging stations in the enclosed parking garage and plans to launch a Fiat 500e car sharing program.

“We were focused on filling a void in the Fort Lee market. Our homes are efficiently sized, but beautifully designed, so we’re able to offer a luxury product at an entry-level price point,” LoConte said. “The location at the foot of the George Washington Bridge is ideal for any commuter, where one can walk, bike, drive or take a bus over to Manhattan in just a few short minutes.”
