Engle wins Macau’s FIA GT World Cup wet weather thriller
Maro Engel has taken his second career FIA GT World Cup victory after an ultra-close battle between the leading group on traitorously wet Guia Circuit, with the Mercedes-AMG ace capitalising on mistakes from Antonio Fuoco and Raffaele Marciello in the closing stages of the race
Nine years after his victory in the inaugural running of the FIA GT World Cup in 2015, the German secured his second triumph in what was also third straight victory for Mercedes-AMG in the world’s most prestigious sprint race for GT3 machinery, following the manufacturer’s successes in the previous two edition with current BMW man Raffaele Marciello.
The race got underway with the first four laps held under the safety car, leaving the 22 runners with 12 laps of racing action to decide the 2024 FIA GT World Cup.
