Enter a rainbow of style at African fashion boutique Tokun | Sammie’s Shenanigans
Across from the Governor’s Square Mall, nested in a lineup of other small locally owned shops, lies a vibrant little gem known as Tokun, an African Fashion Boutique.
For the past 10 years, Tokun has been beaming with style and culture, providing a gateway to the rich and colorful world of African fashion. When you step inside, you’re greeted with a rainbow of textures and hues, a tapestry of tradition and contemporary style.
You will be warmly welcomed by the store owner, Alison Vickers-Adejokun, who named Tokun after a combination of her two children’s names.
Alison maintains that the bold and beautiful prints are perfect for anyone! Indeed, if you spend some time in her store, you will see a diverse range of dedicated customers consistently arriving to check out the rotation of new and exciting merchandise.
Fashion at Tokun spans a broad range of elegant, traditional, modern, and intricate statement pieces for women, men, and children. It may be hard for me to break down all you can find, but I will try.
They have Modern African Fashion; think bold, brave, and beautiful statement prints! Perfect for church, parties, and unique everyday fashion. Traditional African Fashion comprises intricate, colorful, and creative articles of clothing.
Many garments are crafted from high-quality, cotton-based fabrics, ideal for Tallahassee’s warm climate. Cotton’s natural breathability gives this clothing an excellent temperature-regulating capability, keeping you cool in the heat and comfortable as temperatures dip.
They also have a wide range of jewelry, much of which is sourced from estate sales—additionally, sunglasses, purses, headwraps, hats, clutches, and belts.
But Tokun isn’t solely about fashion. The boutique also carries imported shea butter, traditional African black soap, and nutrient-rich sea moss, inviting customers to connect with African style and holistic self-care rooted in African traditions. These products add an extra dimension to TOKUN’s appeal, bringing a touch of cultural authenticity and wellness.
Tokun’s 10 years in Tallahassee are a testament to its lasting impact. It provides the community with a unique and culturally rich shopping experience. If you’re looking to support a local business and add flair to your wardrobe, Tokun is well worth a visit.
