The Dairy in Overton has started providing entertainment events on certain weeknights at their location at 150 N. Moapa Valley Blvd. “We are just offering something to do when it’s hot outside,” said business owner Scott Knight. “But we’ll probably keep it going all year round.”
On Saturday evening, July 13, a small crowd attended the third week of Karaoke Night at The Dairy. The event which has been starting at 8:00 p.m. each weekend has been attracting 20-30 local singers, Knight said.
In fact, Knight reported that it has had such a good response that the party has gone on until midnight with all types of music, from 70’s to modern.
Karaoke is not the only type of entertainment that the restaurant has started or is in the works. Every Tuesday at 8 p.m. the business holds a Trivia Night. This involves a gameshow-style competition where the quiz masters have a chance of winning prizes.
“We’re also trying to get live music started every Friday night,” Knight said about upcoming entertainment.
He added that auditions are being held for live entertainment. Those who would like to audition can sign up online at www.overtondairy.com and click on Entertainment.
“We want this to just be a community gathering place,” Knight said. “Where people can come and just have fun and be with each other.”
During all of the entertainment, The Dairy’s full menu is open, Knight added. The menu rotates every two weeks with new items every day.
As for the karaoke, the highlights of the nights so far (according to Knight) have been local Rick Postma rocking away and keeping everyone entertained. Knight said he seemed to bring smiles to all attendees’ faces.
Last Saturday, Rick got a smaller crowd shouting and singing along to his rendition of Maneater by Hall & Oates with multi-colored lights dancing around.
Knight said that he has added new speakers and a full set-up for karaoke offering just about every genre for people to come and sing to their heart’s delight. He added a reminder that the karaoke was for ages 14 and up.
The entertainment events and attendance are expected to continue growing as Knight is looking at adding fun lectures, presentations, and outside events to the lineup.
He was excited to announce that the outside area behind the restaurant will be up and running soon with a barbecue grill. He said the outdoor events will be great when the weather cools and they have the stage behind the restaurant.
Another thing in the works is possibly adding line dancing and other styles of dancing on Thursday nights.
Knight said he is always up for recommendations for other entertainment options to provide. “I hope this provides a better option of safe fun entertainment for here and hope to see everyone soon,” he said.
