MUSIC

The Little Rock Winds presents its annual Flag Day concert of marches, patriotic songs and pop tunes at 7 p.m. Sunday on the parade grounds behind the MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History, 503 E. Ninth St., in Little Rock’s MacArthur Park.

The concert kicks off with the Presentation of Colors by the Little Rock Air Force Base Honor Guard, the Pledge of Allegiance and the national anthem, performed by Little Rock Winds under the direction of associate conductor Michael Chance. Military veterans and active members will be recognized as the band performs the service songs of all the U.S. Armed Forces.

During the concert, there will be a silent auction of the conductor’s baton, which provides the opportunity to conduct the band’s performance of Leroy Anderson’s “Sleigh Ride” during its Dec. 5 Christmas concert. Blue Bell Creameries will provide free ice cream and Woodmen Life will provide free hand-held flags to wave. Central Arkansas Water will provide free ice water for filling your water bottle.

Sponsors are Stone Bank, the museum and Little Rock Parks and Recreation. Admission is free; there will be a designated drop off for handicapped patrons on the east parking lot near the parade ground. Lawn chairs and picnic baskets are welcome. The concert will be canceled if it rains. Call (501) 666-0777 or visit lrwinds.org.
