River Rhapsodies

Arkansas Symphony Orchestra musicians perform music representing things of nature for the orchestra’s final 2023-24 River Rhapsodies Chamber Music concert 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Great Hall of the Clinton Presidential Center, 1200 President Clinton Ave., Little Rock.

Andrew Irvin, violin, and Ed Owen, tuba, perform “Unterkagner Ländler” for violin and tuba, op.87, No. 2, by Jan Koetsier. Katherine Williamson, violin; Timothy MacDuff, viola; Jacob Wunscch, cello; and Haeshin Shin, piano, play the Piano Quartet in E-flat major, op.87, by Antonin Dvorák. Percussionists Madison Shake, Erick Saoud and Rick Dimond play Toru Takemitsu’s “Rain Tree.” And the orchestra’s Rockefeller Quartet (Linnaea Brophy and Trisha McGovern Freeney, violins; Katherine Reynolds, viola; and Wunscch, cello) perform “The Evergreen” by Caroline Shaw.

Louis Jordan Jazz

The Delta Cultural Center hosts the inaugural Louis Jordan Jazz on the River concert, 7 p.m. Friday at the Cherry Street Pavilion, across from the Delta Cultural Center, 141 Cherry St., Helena-West Helena. The lineup:

◼️ 7 p.m. – gospel-jazz fusion singer Bri Ailene

◼️ 8 p.m. – jazz and hip-hop performer Jose Holloway

◼️ 9 p.m. – jazz trumpeter Rodney Block.

Exhibit in Van Buren

“Small Works on Paper,” the Arkansas Arts Council’s touring visual arts exhibition, opens Wednesday at Arts on Main, 415 Main St., Van Buren, and remains on display there through June 24. Now in its 37th year, the exhibition consists of works no larger than 18-by-24 inches by 39 Arkansas artists who are members of the Arkansas Artist Registry. Gallery hours are 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday and Wednesday-Saturday. The venue will hold a reception, 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 17. Admission is free. ‘Evangelical Extremism’

Tim Alberta, staff writer for The Atlantic, will discuss his book, “The Kingdom, the Power, and The Glory: American Evangelicals in an Age of Extremism,” under the aegis of the Central Arkansas Library System, 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Ron Robinson Theater, 100 River Market Ave., Little Rock.
