EPD: Father and son arrested for burglarizing Evansville business

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – An early morning burglary landed a father and son duo in the Vanderburgh County Jail.

That’s according to the Evansville Police Department, who says officers were dispatched to the J.E. Shekell building on Tennessee Street shortly before 3 a.m.

Officers say a security company had alerted officers after spotting two suspects on surveillance cameras enter a secured, gated lot.

EPD officers arrived on scene and detained 20-year-old Cameron J. Gibson as he was walking away from the lot.

Upon entering the lot to search for the second suspect, officers say another man surrendered himself to police.

That man was identified as 46-year-old Phillip J. Gibson, the father of Cameron Gibson.

During the investigation, police say they found a large hole in the fence, a large radiator coil, a big spool of black insulated copper wire just outside the fence opening, and a jacket outside the lot with a small piece of copper wire in the pocket.

When asked if he and his son were there to steal items, Phillip allegedly said, “Yeah, I’m not going to lie to you” and made the comment that he “had a family to feed”.

Officers say Cameron admitted that the jacket was his and told police how they committed the burglary.

Phillip J. Gibson and Cameron J. Gibson were arrested and charged with Burglary.

Both men are being held in the Vanderburgh County Jail without bond.
