Every upcoming Marvel game in development
Marvel is about to ramp up its video game production slate, with almost a dozen games based on its superheroes currently in development. With the MCU currently hitting roadblocks in its grand plan for Avengers: Secret Wars, there is going to be plenty of Marvel content for gamers in the years to come to keep us busy.
Marvel’s Blade
Announced during 2023’s The Game Awards, Marvel’s Blade is being developed by Arkane’s Lyon studio, the minds behind Prey, Dishonored and Deathloop. The announcement trailer shows the Daywalker in a brand new, original story set in Paris. The company hasn’t announced what platforms the game will be released on, but common sense (and an acquisition worth $7.5 billion) suggests that it might be an Xbox-exclusive game. However, given that Microsoft is willing to put its upcoming games on more platforms, we could be looking at Blade coming to PS5.
Marvel’s Wolverine
Insomniac Games shocked everyone with the announcement of a new Wolverine game in development for PS5 almost two years ago. The Insomniac hack points to plans for releasing the game in 2026, giving the developers plenty of time to cook up a new story for Logan. Insomniac has confirmed that the game takes place in the same universe as its Spider-Man games, so it looks like Wolverine will be used as a launching pad to herald the arrival of a stand-alone X-Men game.
Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra
Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is overseen by Amy Hennig, a creative director on the Uncharted games, so there’s evidence to suggest that the game will be quite awesome in the narrative department. The new game will feature Captain America and Black Panther as playable heroes in a World War 2-era Paris, along with Gabriel, a member of the Howling Commandos, and Nanali, a Wakandan spy. Azzuri will be the Black Panther of the era. We only know that the game will be released sometime in 2025, with the latest trailer focusing on its cutting-edge visuals and storytelling rather than its mechanics.
Marvel Mystic Mayhem
Marvel Mystic Mayhem is a team-based tactical RPG from NetEase Games, the same folks behind Marvel Rivals. Unlike Rivals’ fast-paced shooter action, Mystic Mayhem will take elements from the MOBA genre. Nightmare will serve as its primary antagonist, who will trap Marvel’s heroes into their worst nightmares, which should make for some cool dungeons. Marvel Mystic Mayhem is in development for Android and iOS and currently has no release date.
Marvel’s Iron Man (Untitled)
EA-owned Motive Studio, the developer behind 2023’s Dead Space remake, is working on a new Iron Man game. Not much is known about the game except that it will be a single-player adventure with an original story. The game’s development is being led by Olivier Proulx, who previously worked on the highly underrated Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Motive has proved that they can handle third-person atmospheric storytelling with Dead Space, as well as dogfights in space with Star Wars Squadrons. Combining those skills for an Iron Man game does sound exciting, but we might have to wait a long time for the first gameplay reveal as the developer is still hiring key roles for the title.
Marvel’s Black Panther (Untitled)
After tasting success with single-player games from its various studios, EA seems to be all-in on Marvel. Not only is the company financing an Iron Man game, but we’re also getting a stand-alone Black Panther game from Cliffhanger Games, a new studio. Details are scarce, but we know that Black Panther will be a single-player, third-person game. The game is still early in development, but with talented developers with credits including Middle Earth, Halo Infinite, God of War, and the Call of Duty games, we may get a proper Black Panther game that hopefully reaches the same heights of success as the film franchise.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 3
Technically this one isn’t officially announced but, given the post-credits tease in Spider-Man 2, a third entry in the wall-crawler’s story is all but given. Insomniac has confirmed that going forward, Miles Morales will be the main Spider-Man in their games, which is interesting as the third game will seemingly bring back Otto Octavius partnering with Norman Osborne, aka Green Goblin. The second game’s post-credits scene also teases the debut of Cindy Moon aka Silk. We might also see Cletus Kasady returning as Carnage, as teased by one of the game’s side missions.
