Everything You Need To Know About Marvel Rivals
Marvel Rivals is releasing this week, bringing the highly anticipated superhero shooter to the masses after a very successful closed beta earlier this year. After drawing in over 50,000 players in the beta on PC alone, NetEase’s Overwatch-inspired game has many eagerly awaiting its launch. A lot is going on in the game, with almost three dozen playable heroes launching in season 0, and many questions still unanswered about its structure.
We’ve compiled a list of the most commonly asked questions about Marvel Rivals and their answers from the official sources.
Is Marvel Rivals Free
Yes, Marvel Rivals is a free-to-play game, but like most live-service games there will be an in-game store with monetized items.
Is Marvel Rivals Available on Mobile
No, Marvel Rivals is not available on Android or iOS. In an interview with Pocket Tactics, NetEase’s game director Thaddeus Sasser said that “there are no discussions [happening]” to create a mobile version of the game. Of course, things could still change in the future.
What Platforms Is Marvel Rivals Available On
Marvel Rivals is releasing on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S consoles.
What is Marvel Rivals Install Size
On PC, the game requires 70 GB of available space. The final file size of the console versions hasn’t been revealed, but you’ll need at least 44.5 GB on Xbox when preloading it.
What Performance Modes Are Included in Marvel Rivals on PS5 and Xbox
Marvel Rivals is playable at 120fps on PS5 and PS5 Pro, as revealed in a recent PlayStation blog post. The game’s standard graphics mode targets 60fps at 1440p on the base PS5, while the resolution is closer to 4K on PS5 Pro. The High Frame Rate mode will run at 120fps on both consoles.
NetEase hasn’t spoken about the game’s Xbox performance, but based on the closed beta test you can expect similar performance targets as the PS5 version. However, don’t be surprised if the Xbox Series S version settles for 60fps only.
How Many Playable Characters Are in Marvel Rivals
There will be 33 playable heroes in the game at launch, with more being added later. You can learn more about every playable character in Marvel Rivals in our list, along with information about how character roles work.
How Many Maps Are in Marvel Rivals
There are nine confirmed maps in Marvel Rivals, which are as follows:
- Hydra Charteris Base: Hell’s Heaven
- Klyntar: Symbiotic Surface
- Tokyo 2099: Shin-Shibuya
- Tokyo 2099: Spider-Islands
- Tokyo 2099: Warped Ninomaru
- Wakanda: Birnin T’Challa
- Wakanda: Hall of Djalia
- Yggsgard: Royal Palace
- Yggsgard: Yggdrasill Path
How Many Game Modes Are in Marvel Rivals
There are four game modes in Marvel Rivals:
- Convoy: One team defends a moving convoy while the opposing team attacks it
- Convergence: Similar to Convoy, but the attacking team has to capture a mission area first
- Domination: All teams will fight over control of a single-point
- Conquest: Standard team deathmatch mode
Additionally, there will be a practice range for newcomers to train themselves and a competitive mode for more serious players.
Will Marvel Rivals Have Cross-Play
Yes, Marvel Rivals will support cross-play so you can battle with or against friends on other platforms. However, there are some caveats to this. Cross-play will be disabled in the Competitive Mode, so PC players can’t battle against console players.
Will Marvel Rivals Have Cross-Progression
Unfortunately, the game won’t let you carry your progress across multiple platforms. That means you’ll have to stick with one platform, so make that choice wisely. “For now, we have no cross-progression,” former director Guangyun Chen told TheGamer in October.
“As we only have around two months to go global launch, we are doing the final tech check to see what we can do and how we can process it. The workload is a lot more than we thought at the beginning.”
How Does the Marvel Rivals Battle Pass Work
Almost every live service game includes a battle pass for rewards, and they all work pretty similarly. Marvel Rivals also has one but it functions a little differently from others. The Marvel Rivals battle pass will be permanent, so players in the future can go back and earn rewards in it without it expiring when a new season drops.
The Marvel Rivals Luxury Battle Pass for Season 0 costs 490 Lattices ($4.85 USD or regional equivalent), and includes five costumes and their related cosmetics. There is also a free battle pass with “one epic-quality costume” and other rewards.
The Season 0 Luxury Battle Pass is half-priced, with half the items, as the launch season only lasts for a month. Going forward, expect the premium battle passes to cost 980 Lattices ($9.70 USD or regional equivalent) with ten costumes and cosmetics.
Are There Free Skins in Marvel Rivals
Most cosmetic skins are available in bundles from the in-game store, but some special free skins are being given away at launch. PlayStation Plus members can get a free Peni Parker skin, while all PS5 owners will get the Scarlet Spider skin for free.
Here are all the free skins and their unlock requirements for Marvel Rivals:
- Peni Parker VEN#M suit (PS Plus subscription required)
- Scarlet Spider skin for Spider-Man (for PS5 owners)
- Iron Man Armor Model 42 costume (use gift code at launch, available on all platforms)
When Can You Preload Marvel Rivals
PC and Xbox players can preload Marvel Rivals right now, but PS5 players need to wait for the game’s launch to install it. It’s worth noting that the Xbox preload is not the full game, so expect another download to be queued before the game goes live.
What Time Does Marvel Rivals Come Out
Marvel Rivals releases on December 6, 2024, at midnight UTC, or December 5, 2024, at 4 pm PT. You can learn more about when Marvel Rivals releases in your region in our dedicated guide.
