Ex-employee accused of fatally shooting worker at Industry shipping business
A man who used to work at a transportation company in Industry was arrested on suspicion of fatally shooting a current employee on Monday, July 15, authorities said.
The suspect, 30-year-old Kevin Paredes, had been fired within the past two weeks, sheriff’s Lt. Michael Modica said.
Detectives don’t yet know the motive behind the shooting of Edward Shi, 35, of Rowland Heights, who appears to have been targeted, Modica said.
The shooting happened shortly before 9 a.m. at 8Loop Trans, which is on the second floor in the 18600 block of East Gale Avenue.
Responding deputies saw Paredes, who matched the suspect’s description, in the parking lot and detained him, Modica said.
Deputies found Shi, who died at the scene, with gunshot wounds to the upper torso.
Shi had been with 8Loop since July 2022, his LinkedIn profile shows. It doesn’t list his specific job.
8Loop started in 2020 and its services include long-haul trucking, regional transportation, and specialized services for cargo, according to its website.
As of Tuesday, Paredes was being held at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in lieu of $2 million bail.
