Exeter City ‘threw away’ chance of Stockport victory – Gary Caldwell
Exeter City manager Gary Caldwell says his side “threw away the game” with their second-half performance at Stockport County.
With Storm Darragh causing strong first-half winds against them, Exeter went into the break level at 0-0 before Stockport scored twice in the second half to seal victory.
The loss leaves Exeter 11th in League One, seven points off the play-off places.
“It’s a big disappointment because I thought we did a lot of things really well in this game,” Caldwell told BBC Radio Devon.
“We’ve just kind of thrown three points away.”
Caldwell says while his side’s build-up play was excellent, they made the wrong decisions at key moments.
“We play through so many times and get in areas where we need more within the final third, whether that’s a run, a pass, a bit of quality,” he added.
“You can see in them they’ve got one of the best players in the league in Louie Barry, they don’t need to do a lot to create a chance because of an individual piece of quality that he has.
“Whenever he got the ball he was a threat, and we had so much good play, but it didn’t result in enough and that’s something we have to keep working on.”
