Exhibition to show work of famed fashion photographer Lee Miller
The Lee Miller collection will be on display at Dimbola Museum and Galleries from Sunday, February 2, until Sunday, May 18, 2025.
Lee Miller was recently portrayed in a film by Kate Winslet.
The exhibition will feature examples of Miller’s work from 1940 to 1944, demonstrating the attitudes of women during the war.
Miller, who was a fashion photographer for magazines such as British Vogue, turned her talents towards documenting the experience of women during the war.
Some of the photographs in the collection evoke the urgency and resourcefulness of wartime Britain, while others show models posing in front of the destruction inflicted by the Blitz.

In her piece Check Mate, distributed in British Vogue in 1943, Miller drew attention to the difficulties of publishing colour photography in wartime.
Through Hats Assignment, she urged the public to fight the war with fashion.
The exhibition will show how these women would not bow down to the harsh realities of war, striving instead to maintain their feminine strength with pride.
The Lee Miller collection comes to Dimbola on loan from the Lee Miller Archives.
The exhibitions have been curated by celebrated artist and writer Julian Bell, president of Dimbola Museum and Galleries.
