Extreme heat won’t delay ODOT projects, ‘business as usual’

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — As high temperatures stick around throughout the week, ODOT workers out on roadways are taking extra precautions.

ODOT says that the intense heat this week will not cause any delays on current projects, including those along I-75 and beyond.

Workers have been advised to take extra breaks in available shade and inside their vehicles. They are to look after their construction peers, ensuring they stay hydrated.

We are going to continue working through the day, we are going to ask our folks to kind of rotate the jobs they are doing in terms of the physical demand, if they are able to rotate in and out of shade, making sure that they are going to be checking on their buddy that they are working with, and keeping them hydrated. So we are going to be working business as usual, but we are definitly going to be encouraging folks to be mindful of the heat.

Loryn Bryson, ODOT District 7 public information officer.

Drivers are urged to give workers ample space and to slow down in construction zones.
