F-M student-athletes celebrate a successful fall sports season – Fayetteville-Manlius Schools

FMHS student-athletes have a lot to be proud of as the fall sports season comes to a close! The Hornets ended the season with a team GPA of 92.18, earning each team NYSPHSAA Scholar-Athlete status. See each team’s individual GPA below.

The girls tennis, girls swimming & diving, and girls cross country teams all won league championship games, while the girls tennis, and girls and boys volleyball teams won sectional championship games. Individually, Meghan Groshans won a sectional individual championship for the 500m freestyle, and Elise Wratney won for the 100m breaststroke. Our gymnastics team also finished in second place at the sectional tournament.

Athletic Director Scott Sugar has named the girls volleyball team as the “Team of the Fall Season.” The girls finished the regular season with an 11-3 record and were seeded #1 in Class AA. The team took home the Section III, Class AA Championship and the Regional Championship.

For the first time, the girls volleyball team traveled to state championship weekend, where they advanced to the championship game. The girls finished second in the state, losing a tight match-up against Half Hollow Hills West, a team from Long Island. The girls did take home the Sportsmanship Team Award, and Kalyna Dannenberg won the Sportsmanship Award. Both Kalyna and Larah Schepp were selected for the All Tournament Team.

All 13 of F-M’s fall 2024 varsity sports teams earned NYSPHSAA scholar-athlete status. This accomplishment is earned when 75% or more of the team roster have an average GPA of 90 or above. During the 2024 fall season, 234 student-athletes have earned this tremendous accomplishment.
