The Federal Aviation Administration issued a ground delay on Tuesday at Newark Liberty International Airport over staffing issues.

FAA’s website says flights departing to Newark Airport are experiencing an average of 95 min delays, with some delays reaching up to 165 minutes. The FAA’s advisory said staffing is causing the delayed conditions.

The delays are expected to last all throughout the evening as Thanksgiving travel reaches it’s peak hours. Delays are suppose to last from 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday until about 1 p.m. headed into Wednesday morning.

According to FlightAware, EWR has 225 total delays at the airport as of 7 p.m. on Tuesday evening. FlightAware also states five flights have been cancelled at Newark Airport.

Newark Airport’s Twitter account posted that travelers may experience flight delays due to FAA issues and recommend they check their flight status.

The American Automobile Association projects about 80 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more to their destination during this Thanksgiving holiday period which lasts until the Monday after the holiday. About five million of those are expected to travel by air. This marks one of the busiest holiday travels seasons on record according to AAA.
