TAMPA, Fla. — In the stands among friends and family is one man constantly taking notes while the game moves.
For longtime high school sports writer Bob Putnam school may be out for the summer but he is constantly on the move.
Nobody knows the high school scene like the man with the nickname Big Game Bobby. The St.Pete native and USF Grad Spent 28 years covering four counties of high school sports for the Tampa Bay Times.
“I think I’ve had as a beat when I was there, every sport, high school wise, wrestling, tennis, golf, swimming you name it”. Bob recalls while taking in a Girls summer league game.
Four years ago when the pandemic hit, so did wide spread cuts at the newspaper and Big Game Bobby found himself on the sidelines.
So in April of 2020, Bob bet on himself, taking his talent and his three decades of high school connections and started his own online sports site. Prime Time Preps.
Bob covers every sport in Hernando, Pasco, Hillsborough and Pinellas county and giving it his own personal touch.
In March of this year, his website Prime Time Preps hit an all time high with one million views for the month alone, a milestone accomplishment for this one man band.
Bob’s biggest reward for covering the high school scene is being able to meet a kid he once covered who would tell them he still has the article he wrote on them.
Bob does it for the Parents, Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles, and the Tampa Bay area hopes he never stops.
