Facebook’s icon mysteriously changes black overnight leaving users baffled

FACEBOOK users have been left confused after the app’s icon mysteriously changed overnight – and some suspect it might be a bug.

People woke up to a different logo for the social network on some iPhones.

‘What’s wrong’ people have asked

“What’s wrong with the Facebook logo?” one person asked on Reddit.

“The colour has become weird with the latest version. I’ve deleted and reinstalled it twice. Still hasn’t fixed issue.”

Another wrote: “It’s annoying. At a glance, I think it’s an app waiting to be installed/installing.”

The app’s logo has taken on a black background with the blue “f” still in place.

It appears to have only happened on iOS so far.

And Facebook hasn’t explained why the change has happened.

Some suspect it might have something to do with Apple‘s upcoming iPhone launch event.

On September 9, the tech giant is expected to unveil brand new iPhone 16 devices, as well as news about its radical iOS 18 upgrade.

“Might be in preparation for the new iOS launch?” a third user chimed.

Meanwhile, others noted that it appears the logo is “stuck in inverted mode”.

MARKETING STUNT?

Another possible reason for the unexpected change could be that it’s simply a marketing stunt.

Other apps have been known to do this.

Duolingo has done it several times and just yesterday changed its iconic owl to a very poorly and sick-looking bird.

Fans have described it as “disgusting” and caused them to have a “panic attack”.

iPhone tricks to try today

Here are some of the best…

  • Typing cursor – When typing, hold down the space bar to turn your keyboard into a trackpad, letting you move around words and sentences more easily
  • Close all Safari tabs – To do this in one go, simply hold the overlapped squares in the bottom right-hand corner, and press close all tabs
  • Delete lots of photos quickly – Hold down on a photo and then drag your finger diagonally in Photos to select lots of images at once, then hit delete
  • Convert currency quickly – Swipe down from the top of your Home screen (or swipe left to right on an iPhone X or later model), then tap in the bar and type a currency (like $200) and it will automatically covert to your local currency
  • Check if you’re due a battery upgrade – Batteries inside smartphones degrade over time. Just go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health, and check out the Maximum Capacity reading. Generally a battery is considered worn when you’re down to 80% capacity. If you’re below, you can buy a battery swap from Apple
  • Move apps around faster – Hold an app until it starts wiggling, then (while still holding) tap other apps, causing them to stack so you can move them around easier
