Fall travel trends reveal surge in bookings for flights and cruises, AAA reports | Fingerlakes1.com

As summer winds down and before the holiday rush begins, travelers are taking advantage of the fall shoulder season to embark on scenic getaways. AAA reports a notable increase in both domestic and international travel, with fewer crowds, mild weather, and competitive pricing driving demand.

“This is the perfect time for travel, whether by road or plane,” said Stacey Barber, Vice President of AAA Travel. “We’re seeing more bookings for flights and cruises compared to last year, especially to destinations known for their fall foliage.” Popular U.S. cities include Orlando, Boston, and Seattle, while European hotspots such as Rome, Paris, and London are drawing international travelers.

According to AAA, domestic flight bookings are up 1% compared to last fall, while international flight bookings have increased by 3%. The cost of travel remains stable, with average roundtrip domestic tickets priced at $660, and international fares averaging $1,315. Cruise bookings have surged, with domestic cruises seeing a 19% spike and international cruises up by 6%.

AAA highlights the advantages of road trips this fall, noting that gas prices are lower than last year and rental car rates have dropped by 5% domestically and 15% internationally. Travelers looking for inspiration can explore Trip Canvas, AAA’s free travel planning site.
