Family-owned shipping store in Henderson sees ‘big boom’ in business as mail theft increases

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – With mail theft on the rise across the Las Vegas Valley, some are turning away from using a traditional mailbox all together.

One family-owned shipping store in Henderson says they’re seeing the benefits of this, with their private mailbox rentals increasing 30% this year.

“Within the last four months, it’s just been a big boom,” PostMaxx Owner Tony Laird-Wise says. “It’s basically security, you have a secure location to receive your mail and your packages, it’s not being left on your doorstep for somebody to take it and steal it.”

Laird-Wise they’ve even had to add mailboxes to keep up with the increased demand.

Data from the United States Postal Inspection Service shows the top five zip codes for mail theft complaints in the Las Vegas Valley in one year:

• 89131: 140
• 89135: 139
• 89149: 114
• 89052: 108
• 89118: 108

Instead of waiting around to see if she becomes a part of that statistic, Julia Grambo is renting privately.

“However they’re tragic, while I’m watching people get their packages stolen off of their porches, and all you guys get to do is watch, mine are safe because they got delivered to PostMaxx,” Grambo says.
