Father and son set world record at Shenandoah National Park

ELKTON, Va. (WHSV) – A father and son set a Guinness World Record, visiting every national park in the lower 48 states in just 15 days, with Shenandoah National Park as their last stop.

Andy Wilson has been a pilot for five years; he captained his own small plane, with his father, Mark along for the ride. Both sporting homemade T-shirts with the Guinness World Record logo, the two set the record for the most national parks visited in the shortest number of days.

“My favorite part was meeting all of the cool people we got to meet, and hanging out with my dad,” said Andy. “We’ve been able to go to lots of national parks and meet a lot of people in hotels, Ubers and at airports. We have so many great people in our country; it’s just fun to meet people.”

The trip has allowed the father-son duo to bond with one another.

”I think the thing we both share is that we want to go out and see our national parks,” said Mark, “If we can do that, and encourage others to make the time to go see it, I think that’ll be part of the payoff.”

According to Andy, it took the pair a year to plan their trip.
