Father, son cut ribbons on their Big Bay businesses on the same day
BIG BAY, Mich. (WLUC) – On Wednesday afternoon, Big Bay celebrated the grand opening of two new businesses. Both of which are separately owned, one by a father and the other by his son.
Charlie Drury and his son Hayden are now two business owners in Big Bay.
Charlie is the owner of Huron Mountain Outfitters, an outdoor goods store with a rich history of ownership in the area. Hayden is the new owner of Huron Mountain Ice Cream, which opens for the season on May 10.
Both businesses held a grand opening ribbon-cutting ceremony this morning.
The business owners said they’re hoping to bring some new energy to Big Bay.
“You know, Big Bay is a growing area,” Hayden said. “I’m hoping to, you know, capture some campground business and make Big Bay a community where people want to return to and kind of create family traditions. Keep kids coming back for years and maybe have them bring their kids eventually.”
“We’re seeing a lot of growth, a lot of good positive energy in Big Bay. You know, the hotels are under new ownership, the Lumberjack is under new ownership, my son opened up the ice cream shop across the way and we’re back here. So, you know it’s fun, you know it’s good energy and I don’t think we’d do it if it wasn’t fun,” Charlie said.
The Huron Mountain Outfitters sells outdoor supplies and rental equipment while Huron Mountain Ice Cream will sell ice cream and shakes.
Charlie said the two of them joke about which business will do better, but in the end, it’s nice to have the support.
