FBI raids businesses, offices of Hinds County DA Jody Owens

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – Federal authorities are raiding businesses owned by Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens.

Several federal vehicles were outside the businesses Wednesday morning when our cameras arrived.

Those businesses include Downtown Cigar Company LLC, and Downtown Pizza and Daquiri at the corner of East Pearl Street.

FBI officials also were searching Owens’ offices, which are located at the Hinds County Courthouse.

“The FBI is executing… federal search warrants at multiple locations. The affidavit in support [of] the search warrants has been sealed by the court, and so I am prohibited from commenting further,” said FBI spokeswoman Marshay Lawson. “There is no threat to public safety.”

Other details were not immediately available.

Owens is the manager of the Downtown Cigar Company LLC, according to the Mississippi Secretary of State’s website.

Owens could not be reached for comment.
