Female-focused gym, Ambition Fitness, to open second Louisville location. Where to find it

The future of fitness is ‘female forward’ in this gym opening its second location in Louisville.

Ambition Fitness, a local female-founded and operated fitness studio, is expanding to open its second Louisville location this winter.

The studio, owned by Katie Daniel, opened its first location in St. Matthews in 2018 and specializes in strength training for women. It was founded to provide a female-focused space for women to use weights in an upscale, community-centered environment.

Daniel said her journey with weightlifting inspired her to found Ambition.

“I thought about it for a while and finally decided to take the leap and left corporate America and opened Ambition so women would have access to weights in an environment that is comfortable, inviting, and feminine,” she told the Courier Journal.

The new location will be located in the heart of Springhurst at 10508 Fischer Park Drive next to retailers like Target, Meijers, and Home Goods. Daniel hopes to model the hours after her first location, though they haven’t yet been finalized.

In addition to group fitness and personal training, the new 2,858 square foot space will introduce small group training and boast upgraded lighting, equipment, and showers. The St. Matthews location currently has over 250 members and 16 employees.

Daniel worked with Woodford Hoagland with Hoagland Commercial and signed a 10-year lease on the east Louisville space. She also worked with DKN Architects and RLM Construction on the design and build of the space.

“St. Matthews has done great, and we are thrilled about that,” Daniel said. “Proximity to a gym is very important and there are a lot of people in the East End, Prospect, and Middletown that we think would love to work out with us, too.”

Those interested in getting a membership can join through Ambition’s website or download the Ambition Fitness app in the Google Play or Apple Store. New guests can try a workout class for $5 before deciding whether to purchase a membership.

Daniel believes, though, that once people are inside Ambition Fitness, they will love the environment.

“We like to say we gave the weight section a makeover,” Daniel said. “In the studio, it looks like a nightclub. It’s personal, it’s accommodating and there’s no judgment.”

Members have a wide variety of classes or personal training sessions to choose from. Guests can participate in classes such as Rhythm and Lift, where spin cycling and weights are combined for “total body cardio that leaves you feeling strong and wanting more,” or AMRAP, “a heavier and rep-based class. This format will allow you to individualize your pace and movements, with a comprehensive head-to-toe focus,” according to the website.

Other classes include HIRT (high-intensity resistance training), a Full Body class, and a Power and Strength Class, plus monthly programming and personal training designed to best fit the member.

“We are so excited to bring Ambition Fitness to the east end area. Our mission has always been to help women feel confident inside and out, and we can’t wait to share this new space with the community that has been so supportive of us over the past few years,” Daniels said in a press release.
