Finalists for dean of the business college to visit campus

Finalist candidates for the dean of Lundquist College of Business will be in Eugene in mid-May to meet with campus stakeholders. There will be up to four visiting candidates.

As part of their campus visits, the finalists will give a public presentation, which can be attended in person or virtually by Zoom. The public talks will take place from 11 a.m. to noon on May 14, 16, 21 and 23 in 125 Chiles. Presentations will be recorded for those unable to attend.

“Anyone who’s spent time in Lillis Hall has felt the bustle and energy of students at work — in classes and study groups, with tutors, advisers and career coaches,” interim Provost Karen Ford said.  “The dean of LCB will join a lively, engaged community of industry professionals and scholars and a great variety of students eager to learn about the world through business.”

Candidates’ materials will be available three business days in advance of each candidate’s visit on the search website. An online survey for community members to share their observations will also be available on the search website. Surveys will open on the first day of the candidate’s interviews, and all surveys will close at 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28.

Reporting to the provost and senior vice president, the dean of the Lundquist College of Business is the chief academic and administrative officer for the college and is responsible for developing and implementing academic strategies; recruiting and retaining faculty, students, and staff; and managing organizational and financial structures that promote excellence in research, scholarship, creative practice, and education.

The dean will work with university administration, faculty, alumni, and other internal and external leaders to promote the national and international visibility of the Lundquist college and to ensure that resources align with its strategic objectives and potential. The dean is a member of the provost’s deans council and the president’s university leadership team.

Established in 1914, with campuses in Eugene and Portland, the Lundquist College of Business provides business education to students from around the world.

A top business school, Lundquist draws strength from its links to the Pacific Rim and the distinctive qualities of Oregon culture: innovation, sustainability, active lifestyles, financial stewardship, and respect for individuality and diversity within an increasingly global community.

The school advances a “learning by doing” approach to business education, providing students with opportunities to work on real projects for real companies, gaining first-hand experience before they graduate.

The college is home to Warsaw Sports Business Center, the first sports industry program housed at a college of business; is the first certified environmentally friendly business school in the United States; and has a Green MBA program ranked fourth in the country.

Laura Lee McIntyre, dean of the College of Education, is chair of the search committee, which includes administrators, faculty members, staff and a graduate student.
