Fire destroys family-owned business

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – A family-owned butcher shop that has been serving customers in Wyandot County since the 1980s has been forced to close after a fire caused thousands of dollars in damages.

Pasco Custom Processing is a butcher shop in Wyandot County and it is still trying to recover from a devastating fire.

“I have been doing it pretty much my entire life, so, I don’t want to go do something else this late in the game,” owner Garry Pasco said.

Pasco took over the business from his father and has run a successful business for over 17 years. That business is now in jeopardy after a fire destroyed the building.

Since the fire happened, Pasco has been working every day to cleanup the mess and figure out what is next. He still does not know how the fire started.

“It is still under investigation. So, I don’t really know, it was engulfed when I got here,” Pasco said.

A neighbor called Pasco to let him know about the fire. At least five different fire departments were needed to put out the fire and Pasco said there was barely anything salvageable.

“Freezers, cooler, just everything, it was pretty much a total loss,” Pasco said.

The business has been missing out on thousands of dollars in revenue each week since the fire.

Pasco said that putting the building back together as it was, would cost hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Employees at the butcher shop are now left without work.

“Three of us for sure are out of work and we are just going to put the pieces back together the best we can,” Pasco said.

After losing the business for the time being, Pasco reached out on Facebook to ask for help. A GoFundMe was set up and Pasco is hoping that others will help.

“There is a Pasco Custom Processing Facebook that has our contact information,” Pasco said.

Despite the loss of the business, Pasco is determined to get things back up and running and continue to follow in his father’s footsteps by serving loyal customers.

“Be patient, I am going to work on it every day until it is done,” Pasco said.
