Fire in Harvard business leaves heavy damage, officials say

HARVARD, Ill. (WIFR) – First responders say they responded to fire Saturday that left a business heavily damaged from smoke, fire and water.

The building, located on the 2200 block of Route 173, Harvard, was reported to the fire around 10:45 p.m. Saturday. Officials say the building was hard to get into, but the fire was able to be brought under control by 12:20 a.m. Sunday.

First responders continued working for another hour and a half after declaring the fire under control. The business inside the building reportedly makes wooden pallets, and it was closed when the fire broke out, according to the Harvard Fire Protection District.

No one was reported injured. Officials also say this fire does not appear suspicious in nature, but it is being investigated.
