Firefighters battle large blaze at Perkins Cove business in Ogunquit

OGUNQUIT, Maine — Firefighters in Ogunquit are battling a large fire at Perkins Cove.

Firefighters were called to Perkins Cove at 7:17 p.m. for a reported structure fire on Perkins Cove Road. When crews arrived, they found heavy fire in the structure that houses Uniques and Antiques. The Oarweed Restaurant, which is closed for the season, abuts the property.

A second alarm fire was called and mutual aid from Wells, York, South Berwick and other departments are now at the scene.

The Wells Fire Department posted on their Facebook that “multiple buildings affected.”

Uniques and Antiques posted on its Facebook that the owner “Rusty and his staff are okay.”

“This is a heartbreaking shock and we appreciate everyone who has reached out,” they posted. “We ask for continued prayers for all, including our neighbors at Oarweed Restaurant and our other friends in the Cove. Thank you to first responders. We will update more when we can.”

Uniques and Antiques, which carries everything from holiday decor and souvenirs to small antiques and artisan pieces, has been town staple since 2009.

The Oarweed Restaurant has been a part of the town for more than 60 years, opening in 1963.
