First Alert Weather: Potential for snow & slippery travel Monday
WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) – The next few days will be busy travel days across the country and in North Central Wisconsin. The weather will be causing some concerns, particularly on Monday. A clipper-type system will spread light snow and snow showers into the region, likely leading to at least slippery and perhaps snow covered roads in the region. A First Alert to be prepared for this to impact your travel on the roads from Monday morning to late afternoon. Milder than average temperatures and dry on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, along with the start of Hanukkah. The next weather maker later in the new week will likely produce rain and not snow.
Mostly cloudy and cold Saturday night into Sunday morning. Temperatures will bottom out in the single digits around midnight, rising into the low 10s toward daybreak on Sunday.
Considerable cloudiness on Sunday and not as cold. Highs in the low to mid 20s.
A First Alert for the next weather maker, which could arrive as soon as late Sunday night with spotty freezing drizzle or flurries. Otherwise, the main concerns will be on Monday as low pressure tracks across the region. Periods of light snow and snow showers are expected, lasting into the late afternoon, ending from west to east during the evening commute. Snowfall potential of 1-2″ from around Highway 29 on north, while a coating to 1″ could fall to the south. Roads on Monday will range from slippery to snow covered. We will continue to monitor the progression of this snow maker and if the snowfall totals increase, a First Alert Weather Day could be needed on Monday. Highs on Monday in the low 30s.
Christmas Eve is mostly cloudy and relatively mild, with highs in the mid 30s. Staying dry for Santa, Christmas Eve night. Christmas Day has more clouds than breaks of sun with highs in the mid 30s. The clouds will stick around as Hanukkah gets started after sunset on Wednesday evening.
The next weather makers will be rain producers in the Badger State. Just mild enough Thursday, Friday, and next Saturday with highs in the mid 30s to low to mid 40s. A chance of showers on Boxing Day Thursday, while showers are possible on Friday, with periods of rain on Saturday. Have the umbrella ready to go late next week.
