FIRST ALERT WEATHER: Utah highways to face weather-related travel issues

Multiple Utah highways are expected to face weather-related travel issues on Friday due to the winter storm moving through the state.

Officials with the Utah Department of Transportation said mountain snow that began falling Thursday will transition into a mix of rain and snow throughout Friday. Higher-elevation routes may see snow and snow pellets.

While snowfall is expected at elevations between 7,000 and 9,000 feet, the Wasatch Front will likely not see snow on the roads but will experience morning rain showers.

The winter weather system is projected to bring rain showers to southeastern Utah through the weekend, with the storm clearing by Sunday.

Most roads along the I-15 and I-80 corridors will remain wet until the storm dissipates. Light slush may develop along I-15 and I-80 through Parley’s Summit on Friday morning.

UDOT has advised motorists to expect weather-related travel hazards along the following Utah roadways on Friday:

  • I-70, Clear Creek Summit; Salina Summit
  • I-15, Cove Fort
  • I-80, Parley’s Summit
