First Quality invests $418 million in Macon, creating 600 jobs
MACON, Ga. (WGXA) — First Quality Baby Products LLC is investing $418 million into a new facility and creating 600 new jobs.
Robby Fountain, the chairman of Macon-Bibb Industrial Authority, says the First Quality has been in the county since 2008 and this investment means a lot.
“It says a lot about your community when they decide they want to invest another 400 million dollars. It says you’re doing something right and I think Macon is on the right track”, said Fountain.
The company manufactures baby diapers, training pants, feminine hygiene products, and more.
Some of the positions included in the 600 news jobs will include hiring executive, administrative, supervisory, and production.
“Having these 600 new jobs means this is head of household jobs. These people have money that they can go out and spend in our economy. It’s good for everybody from the sales tax point of view. News jobs people will buy housing. It means a lot”, said Fountain.
Mayor Lester Miller says officials have been pushing for more jobs and economic growth within the county for years.
“It’s a validation of all the great work that we’re doing here. It’s another existing industry that is choosing to stay in Macon. They could go anywhere, but they’re choosing to stay in Macon because of the workforce we have, the infrastructure me have, and the people we have in our community,” said Miller.
After the expansion announcement, crews swiftly began clearing land. Miller says this investment will impact more than the immediate area.
“We’ve been working on this for a while. We’re glad it all came together and it came together at a great time so it’s good for everybody and not just Macon-Bbb County but all of Middle Georgia,” said Miller.
