FIS Alpine Ski World Cup 2024/25: Camille Rast scores first World Cup victory in Killington slalom to take overall lead from Mikaela Shiffrin

Camille Rast continued her breakout season by claiming her first FIS Alpine Ski World Cup victory in the Killington slalom on Sunday (1 December).

Anna Swenn-Larsson and Wendy Holdener were tied for second, 0.57 behind, having been joint-winners of the corresponding race two years ago.

Rast, 25, had never stepped on the podium at an individual World Cup race before this season. At the Vermont resort, she made it three top-three finishes in succession and could scarcely believe her eyes as first-run leader Lena Duerr could only go into fourth.

Afterwards, she told FIS, “It’s really crazy at the moment and I’m so happy with my skiing right now. It’s just the beginning of the season and it’s already going so good and I hope to continue like this.”

With Mikaela Shiffrin on the sidelines after crashing out of Saturday’s giant slalom when her 100th World Cup win looked on the cards. the Swiss rose from third on the first run to top the timesheets. Shiffrin – who had won six out of seven previous slaloms in Killington – had triumphed in both previous slalom races this season, but Rast’s win saw her move above the American star in both the slalom and overall World Cup standings.

Holdener was only ninth after the first run but produced a stunning second descent full of aggression to take the lead. Swenn Larsson matched her aggregate time having been second on the first run.

Next weekend’s scheduled giant slalom at Mont Tremblant has been cancelled due to a lack of snow so the next FIS World Cup stop for the women is Beaver Creek on the weekend of 14-15 December for a downhill and Super G.
