A highly popular gym will close after decades all because its tenancy couldn’t be secured at a major Westfield.
Fitness First has been operating for 20 years on the sixth floor of the Westfield Bondi Junction Shopping Centre in Sydney‘s eastern suburbs.
Members were told via email last week that the Bondi Platinum facility would be closing later in the year.
‘Unfortunately, after 20 years of dedicated service to the community, it’s with deep sadness that we write to inform you of the impending closure of our Fitness First Platinum Gym, at Westfield Bondi Junction later this year,’ the email said.
‘We were hopeful of securing a new location within the centre to build a new premium fitness facility.
‘However, we were disappointed to learn late last week that we were unsuccessful in our tender bid.
‘Please be assured that we are providing all the necessary support to our team during this difficult period.’
The well-known gym chain was still negotiating with Westfield when they would close their doors – and members will be contacted as soon as the day is confirmed, Yahoo reported.

Although Bondi locals still have another Fitness First Platinum in the area on Spring Street, it is much smaller than the soon-to-close Westfield gym.
Fitness First has an impressive 37 gyms in Sydney, 12 in Melbourne and two in Canberra.
Scentre Group (which owns and operates 42 Westfield Shopping Centres) and Fitness First were both contacted by Daily Mail Australia for comment.
