Fitness Untamed observes tenth Murph Challenge

MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) – Monday marked the tenth “Murph Challenge” organized by Fitness Untamed.

The challenge is observed every year by gyms around the country in honor of Lieutenant Michael Murphy, who was killed in Afghanistan in 2005.

It consists of a one mile run, 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 squats, and finishing with another one mile run.

It was the regimen that Murphy followed.

”On Memorial Day we get together and celebrate, and talk about how those people who served suffer, so we give the opportunity to suffer ourselves for a workout that lasts about an hour,” said Fitness Untamed owner Autumn Spence.

This year, Fitness Untamed invited Gray Duck CrossFit, which brought the entire community together in the most successful Murph Challenge yet.

”It’s more of a community atmosphere. There’s a lot of support for people to come do this, and there’s multiple ways we can modify the workout to make sure everyone can, no matter where you’re at in your fitness journey,” said Gray Duck CrossFit owner Joshua Ruiz.

In addition to Gray Duck CrossFit, Mark 44 MMA was also present, following their recent partnership with Fitness Untamed.
