Florida Little League Team Comforts Chinese Taipei After Beating Them in World Series on an Error
In a show of good sportsmanship, Florida players consoled members of the Chinese Taipei team after a dramatic ending to the Little League World Series Championship Game.
Players from the Lake Mary, Fla. team could be seen embracing their opponents — a dominant team who previously rolled through the 10-day tournament — as some on the Chinese Taipei squad were overcome with emotion after the heartbreaking loss.
With the game tied 1-1 in extra innings, the team from Lake Mary, Fla. bunted, drawing the Chinese Taipei first baseman away from the bag.
However, a defensive miscue caused the pitcher to throw the ball to first base, sending the ball into the outfield.
Florida’s Lathan Norton was able to easily score from second base, and the team clinched the championship.

The win continued the U.S. streak of six consecutive championships. It was the first for the suburban Orlando team and the first-ever title for a team from Florida.
For Norton — who was sick with a 102 degree fever and unable to play in the game on Saturday — helping his team win was particularly special.
“It was the greatest feeling ever,” Norton said, according to the Associated Press. “I still haven’t had time to let it all sink in, but it feels like the most amazing thing ever.”
Teams from Taiwan have been stellar for decades, winning 17 titles from 1969-1996. But since then, a team from the country had only made one other appearance (in 2009) before Sunday, per the AP.
The loss was seemingly hard for everyone involved, including the team’s coaches, who looked crestfallen after the final. They did not appear at the post-game news conference, multiple outlets reported.
