No. 8 national seed Florida State baseball looks to keep its national championship dreams alive Tuesday.
The Seminoles (48-16) face their second elimination game in the 2024 College World Series when it faces No. 4 North Carolina (48-15).
First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. on ESPN from Charles Schwab Field Omaha.
This will be the first meeting between the Tar Heels and Seminoles since 2022, when UNC swept FSU at Boshamer Stadium to close the regular season.
The winner will advance to face undefeated Tennessee Wednesday.
FSU was bounced into the losers’ bracket by Tennessee Friday, dropping its CWS opener 12-11 as the Vols rallied for four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning.
The Seminoles rebounded with a 7-3 win over Virginia Sunday in the first elimination game in the eight-team, double elimination tournament.
UNC beat Virginia 3-2 in its CWS opener Friday on a walk-off, run-scoring single in the bottom of the ninth. The Tar Heels suffered a 6-1 defeat to Tennessee Sunday in their second game.
FSU and UNC have met once in the College World Series, with the Seminoles winning 4-2 in 1989 to eliminate the Tar Heels.
Scheduled starters for Tuesday’s game are left-hander Andrew Armstrong (5-0, 6.98 ERA) for FSU and right-hander Aiden Haugh (4-2, 4.53 ERA) for UNC.
Armstrong is yet to make an appearance this postseason, and his last outing was May 25 in the ACC Tournament. Armstrong started in FSU’s 9-6 win over Wake Forest, allowing three earned runs on three hits in 1.2 innings.
Haugh’s last outing was against LSU in the Chapel Hill regional, when he allowed four runs over three innings.

FSU baseball must slow UNC’s Vance Honeycutt if looks to advance in College World Series
If FSU is to beat UNC Tuesday, it must contain Tar Heel Vance Honeycutt.
Honeycutt’s run-scoring single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth lifted UNC over Virginia Friday.
He also hit his 27th home run of the season and 64th of his career Sunday night against Tennessee, adding to his UNC single season and career record totals.
It was his ninth career NCAA Tournament home run, also a program record. Honeycutt has also scored a UNC single-season record 86 runs this season while posting career-highs for hits (78), doubles (12), RBIs (67), and total bases (175).
