Forest travel agent stuck on cruise as Milton makes landfall

When Rhonda Perrett first got on a Royal Caribbean Cruise on Saturday, she thought it would be just a regular trip.

However, Hurricane Milton through curve ball into their adventure.

Rhonda Perrett has been a travel agent for a little more than year and says this cruise is unlike any she has been on before.

She lives in Forest but goes on cruises as a travel agent frequently.

“I’ve been on 57 cruises, and I have never had anything like this happen before,” Perrett said. “But I don’t usually travel this time of year on a cruise — it was just that it was a work-related thing.”

The cruise was supposed to come back to Miami tomorrow but will have to wait until Friday to dock.

This specific group is all travel agents, so Perrett says they will enjoy having an extra day at sea.

“We got on this ship on the fifth, and it was only supposed to be a five-day cruise,” Perrett said. “We were supposed to be back in Miami tomorrow and we kind of had an idea this may happen. The captain made an announcement this morning and said the conditions were not good and they were keeping us out to sea. We have been basically crawling for the day, somewhere off the coast of Cuba. We are not hitting any bad weather at this point.”

The ship will stay out to sea and dock at the Port of Miami on Friday.

“Royal Caribbean really does the best they can do,” Perrett said.

But overall, Perrett said this delay isn’t a disappointment.

“We are going to have some fun,” she said. “We are here on a travel agent seminar and so this isn’t a vacation. We are just going to take advantage that we don’t have any meetings scheduled or anything.”
