Former Grand Island daycare director pleads guilty to theft to fund gambling habit

A former Grand Island daycare director has been convicted of charges related to stealing over $100,000 from where he worked.

In court Monday afternoon, Andrew Moss pleaded guilty to theft by unlawful taking.

Prosecutors said Moss had a gambling addiction, and that addiction led Moss to steal money in the six figures from a Grand Island daycare, where he served as director.

Prosecutors said last October, staff at St. Paul’s Cornerstone Daycare reported to Grand Island police that more than $150,000 was taken.

It was later determined that Moss withdrew $50,000 in cash and purchased $100,000 worth of Visa gift cards, which was deposited into a special online account that he used for gambling.

Now, Moss must undergo an assessment for a gambling addiction prior to being sentenced.

As part of his plea agreement, Moss agreed to pay everything back, which is approximately $148,000 to St. Paul’s Cornerstone Daycare.

In court, the Hall County attorney and Moss’s attorney jointly agreed to a recommended sentencing of five years of probation and 90 days in jail.

NTV reached out to the daycare for comment but have not heard back.
