Former Hoover football coach’s personnel files from previous jobs show no prior reports or issues

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – WBRC is On Your Side following up and getting new information on a story out of Hoover that had many of you reaching out on social media and through email.

We were able to review former Hoover head football coach Drew Gilmer and defensive coordinator Adam Helm’s personnel files from when they worked at Jefferson County Schools.

Both of the men resigned from the new positions at Hoover High School just last week.

Neither Gilmer or Helm’s files contained any official reports or complaints about either coach’s behavior or actions before they were hired by JeffCo. Schools or during their time working in the district.

Coach Gilmer’s binder was nearly two inches thick, and while it dated back to 2008, it was mostly filled with different teacher accreditations or correspondence.

We reached out to the district to look through the files after concerning Hoover football practice videos leaked online showing a coach toss a helmet and a coach thrusting his hips toward a player’s face. Multiple police reports were filed as a result. We still have not confirmed the names of the coaches that are shown in the leaked videos.

Families for two of Hover Bucs players have retained attorneys and are considering legal actions.

As for those reports filed with Hoover Police, officers confirmed the investigation is still active, but they had no new information they could share at this time.
