Former Smash Fashion – More American carnage from Los Angeles.. ‘Contagious’ the new single from west coast rockers CRYMWAV!
Crymwav (Pronounced ‘Crimewave’) were formed in 2022 from the ashes of Los Angeles rock and rollers Smash Fashion, when guitarist/songwriter Roger Deering and lead guitarist Lloyd Stuart Casson teamed up with Goatsnake and ex Obsessed drummer Greg Rogers and bassist Bruce Braddock.
All of similar age, and a shared baptism into the music world through the American hardcore scene in the 80s, punk, post punk, goth, NWOBM as well as Thin Lizzy, UFO, The Ruts and The Damned.
‘Crymwav started to come together for me while I was staying in London around 3 years ago,’ says Deering.. ‘I went to London to visit my girlfriend who was staying in Ladbroke Grove, a songwriting spree came to me..I wanted to channel the bands from that area.. Hawkwind, Clash, Killing Joke, Motörhead, and I came back to LA with a fistfull of songs.’
In November 2023 Crymwav self released a 6 song EP ’24/7′, ‘We wanted to make our version of a do it yourself punk record.’ The EP garnished rave reviews, and considerable radio airplay worldwide. Guitar World Magazine – “Channelling the furious fire of Motörhead and UFO, cut through with the melodic sensibilities of cheap trick. Every track sounds like an instant stadium-filling anthem.’
Now Crymwav are back with new single ‘Contagious,’ produced by JJ Blair (Rod Stewart, Jeff Beck, Weezer). Described as dark yet danceable, combining powerful elements with catchy hooks, a first taste of their upcoming new LP, tentatively titled ‘Chop Chop’, slated for a March 2025 release.
