Four Steelers playing for their jobs this summer

OTAs are in full swing around the NFL, marking the real beginning of the new NFL season as all 32 clubs embark on a journey that will hopefully end in the Super Bowl.

Every roster will be full of fringe players, as well, that are on the bubble and could find themselves not making their respective teams and looking for a new club to join. The Pittsburgh Steelers are certainly no different, and these are names to keep an eye on throughout the summer and preseason as they try to salvage a spot on the roster.

The Steelers drafted Leal in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft out of Texas A&M, and he hasn’t become a vital part of the defensive line as they would have hoped. In two seasons, he has 29 tackles in 23 games while playing in approximately 25 percent of defensive snaps. With the addition of Logan Lee in the draft, as well as competing with the likes of Isaiahh Loudermilk and Breiden Fehoko, there is a good chance Leal simply gets pushed off the roster.

Depending on how the depth offensive linemen perform this summer, the Steelers may be comfortable trading Moore- similar to how they traded Kevin Dotson and Kendrick Green last season. So say Spencer Anderson or Dylan Cook really impress throughout the next few months, Pittsburgh could move Moore to a team for a draft pick and call it a day. He’ll be a free agent after this season, so they may as well get something for him.

A lot of Steelers fans seem to want the Steelers to go out and sign Justin Simmons. This is after they already signed safety DeShon Elliott to put next to Minkah Fitzpatrick, and they also have Trenton Thompson on the roster, as well. If the Steelers do make a splash and add someone like Simmons to the defense, or even if they don’t and just want to save $3 million, Kazee could be a sneaky cut.

WR Calvin Austin III

There is a hefty competition for the Steelers to see who will be WR4 and WR5. The Steelers have added the likes of Quez Watkins, Scotty Miller, Van Jefferson, and have Denzel Mims and Marquez Callaway on the roster, as well. Plus, it’s heavily expected the Steelers will add a boundary receiver to start opposite of George Pickens. That only leaves so many spots at receiver, especially if the Steelers only keep five receivers. Austin wasn’t a huge part of the offense last season. If he underperforms in camp and preseason, I wouldn’t be shocked if he gets moved.
