There are so many outdoor workouts to enjoy in our parks this season for free, from Zumba to yoga to bootcamps, pickleball, ping-pong, kayaking, and so much more! Our overview covers fitness and sports programs in Brooklyn Bridge Park, Downtown Brooklyn, Fort Greene Park, and beyond.

Brooklyn Bridge Park

Waterfront Workouts in Brooklyn Bridge Park are kicking off this May, and will run through September. Get ready to sweat, stretch, and strengthen yourself both mentally and physically with a diverse lineup of free weekly fitness classes set against the stunning backdrop of Brooklyn Bridge Park. All classes are free, but registration and waiver are required. Registration opens at the beginning of each month for that month’s classes.

  • Zumba with Dodge YMCA
    Mondays, 6-7pm | May 6 – September 30
    Shake and shimmy your way to fitness with high-energy Zumba classes led by the experts at Dodge YMCA.
  • Sunset Yoga with Abhaya Yoga
    Tuesdays, 6-7pm | May 7 – September 24
    Unwind and find your inner peace as you flow through Sunset Yoga sessions guided by the experienced instructors from Abhaya Yoga.
  • Amp’d with Chelsea Piers Fitness
    Wednesdays, 6-7pm | May 1 – September 25
    Feel the burn with Amp’d classes led by Chelsea Piers Fitness, designed to sculpt and tone your body for maximum results.
  • Morning Wellness: Pick Your Practitioner!
    Sundays, 8:30am-9:30am | May 12 – September 29
    Start your day right with rejuvenating morning wellness sessions that will set a positive tone for the day ahead. These Sunday morning classes will be hosted by a rotation of fitness and wellness practitioners; schedule and details to come.
  • Pilates with Dodge YMCA
    Sundays, 10:30-11:30am | May 12 – September 29
    Strengthen your core, improve flexibility, and enhance body awareness with Pilates classes offered by Dodge YMCA every Sunday morning.

Free 2-hour Youth Basketball Clinics with King Hoops will take place at Pier 2 on Tuesdays, June 4-July 23, 5-7pm. Learn basketball basics as head coaches lead participants through drills and games. Clinics will be geared for kids ages 7-17. Advanced registration and waivers are required, but walk-ups can be accommodated if space allows. Registration will open here every Tuesday at 10:00am for class the following week; learn more here.

Free kayaking in the East River is offered on Wednesday and Thursday evenings, 5-7pm, as well as Saturdays, 10am-3pm, beginning May 31 and running through the end of September. No experience is necessary; basic instruction, life vests, and all equipment is provided. Children under 18 must have an adult guardian present. Advance registration is required and opens two weeks ahead of each date.

In honor of International Day of Yoga on Friday, June 20, ONEYOGAHOUSE will lead a free dynamic morning yoga practice and sound meditation at Harbor View Lawn at Pier 1 from 8-11am.

Downtown Brooklyn

Ping-Pong with The Push | Brooklyn Commons Park

Tuesdays, 5-7pm | May 7, 14, 21 & 28 | Free, register here

DJ Mike Doelo and The Push are back for another series of popular ping-pong match ups. Registration necessary, and participants will be required to sign a waiver for each event in the series.

Pickleball | Brooklyn Commons Park

Every day, May 7-19 | 11am-5pm on weekdays & 11am-7pm on weekends | Free, register here

Every day, from May 7-19, get in on the craze and try your hand at the popular, dynamic, and addictive sport of pickleball. Grab your favorite opponent and drop by to play. Court reservations are for 30 minutes, and participants are required to sign a waiver. A guardian must sign for any minors. Each session can include 2-4 people. All equipment will be supplied, but players are welcome to bring their own if they choose.

Zumba with McQueen Fitness | Brooklyn Commons Park

Natarsha McQueen’s beloved Zumba series returns! Devoted fans and new recruits come together every Wednesday to dance their way to fun and fitness. Each class guarantees synchronized moves to some of the most infectious music! Registration required.

Movement Mondays with Mark Morris Dance Group | The Plaza at 300 Ashland

Mark Morris Dance Group kicks off our weekly Movement Mondays series with experts in dance and movement to get your body in motion. Registration required.

Fort Greene Park

Shala Yoga in Fort Greene Park

Saturdays, 11am-12pm | May 4 through October 19 | Free, first-come, first served

Join Shala Yoga in Fort Greene Park, on the Eastern Panel of the Monument. This class is vinyasa-style, meaning we blend breath and movement to help stabilize the mind and strengthen and stretch the body. This class is suitable for all levels. Class registration is free and on a first come first served basis. Space is limited to 25 people. Please bring your own mat and a water bottle. Weather permitting.

Prospect Park 

Prospect Park Yoga

Brooklyn’s most beloved outdoor yoga series is back in Prospect Park! Brooklyn Flow and Prospect Park Alliance present free outdoor yoga on the North Long Meadow every Thursday evening. Brooklyn’s finest yoga teachers from different studios around the park lead classes in a low-pressure, beautiful environment. Join hundreds of Brooklynitesto celebrate yoga and wellness. All levels and experiences are welcome. Bring your own mat, water, and friends!
