From Flea Market to Fashion Show: Family-owned business shines bright on Las Vegas Strip

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – One Florida family is setting up shop inside the Fashion Show Mall and sat down with FOX5 to share the story of their journey to the Las Vegas Strip.

“I always [say] you only have one life to live. Live it with no regrets.”

Richard Clark is a US Air Force Veteran who was born in Jacksonville, FL. He and his wife Clare, along with their daughter, Persia, now call Las Vegas home.

Richard and Clare started a jewelry business in Jacksonville and began selling the pieces at flea markets. A year later, they moved on to selling products at pop-up shops on Naval Air Station Jacksonville, something they would do for four years.

But it was a vacation to Las Vegas that changed their lives.

The pair reached out to several hotel-casinos about opening up a store, but after those conversations, they felt like they needed to prove they could be successful.

“They loved our products. that was like first off, they loved our look, they loved our drive, our clothing, everything,” Richard told FOX5. “They wanted to see what we could do with a storefront.”

So they opened up Mahruyeh in a Fort Lauderdale Mall. The name means “pretty face” in Farsi and is their daughter Persia’s middle name.

It wasn’t long until they secured a spot at the Fashion Show Mall on the Las Vegas Strip.

“It was just crazy to look up and our store name is on the Vegas Strip! To come from the flea market to that, it’s amazing,” Richard said.

The couple says while they are alongside some fancy and expensive designer shops, their prices for clothing and accessories aren’t out of sight. “We’re gonna have the higher end, but we’re also gonna have the lower end. We want everyone to come in and enjoy this experience.”

The dream is to open a location inside Caesars Palace. But until that happens, the family plans to continue attracting new customers, catering to existing ones, and sharing their small business success story. “This is our store, this is our brand, this is Mahruyeh taking over Las Vegas.”

If you’d like to check out the store for yourself, it’s located on the second level of the Fashion Show Mall, near Nordstrom.
