From pumpkin bowling to cranberry picking, fall family fun is coming to the SouthCoast

While many people covet the warmer months, there are some just waiting for that crisp air to take over and the family fall festivals to begin. For some, fall is the most magical time of year, full of pumpkins, treats and autumn-themed activities.

The SouthCoast doesn’t disappoint with a variety of fun events happening in the next couple of months. They are full of yummy eats, entertainment, unique games and so many kids’ activities.

If you are ready for some good old family fun that won’t break the bank, head over to these local festivals happening in the coming weeks:

Acushnet Apple – Peach Festival

Saturday, Sept. 7, and Sunday, Sept. 8: Celebrate 43 years of tradition with great entertainment, crafts, food, and fun! From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Long Plain Museum, 1203 Main St., Acushnet. The parade will kick off at 10 a.m. Sunday from Pope Park. Get free admission and parking to all the festivities.

Saturday, Sept. 14: A day full of fun for all ages is shaping up at the Lakeville Lions Club, 170 Main St., Lakeville. Get your face painted, play games, hit the dunk tank, ride the hay ride, listen to some tunes, and check out the food and craft vendors. Admission is free and the activities are from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Saturday, Sept. 21: Learn unique insights into cranberry harvesting with dry cranberry picking and sorting demos. There will be wagon rides. sensory cranberry activities for the little ones, kid waders, and yard games. You will be able to walk around the bogs, purchase cranberry-themed gifts and goodies, and listen to live music by Everybody Loves Charlie and Moskills and the Holidays. A cash bar will be available and the Alden Parked Food Truck. Tickets are $20 for adults; $12 for children 3 to 18 years old; and kids under 3 are free.

Ticketed entry slots from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. are available at Benson’s Pond, 6 Pine St., Middleboro.

Friday, Sept. 27 through Sunday, Sept 29: This festival has a little bit of everything including demos, children’s activities, professional pumpkin carving, antique tractor displays, artisan marketplace, dog show, local food vendors, and live music. It’s all happening at Westport Fairgrounds, 200 Pine Hill Road. Get entangled in this unique event from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Saturday, Sept. 28: It’s time for some fall joy at the Old Colony Fall Festival from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 476 North Ave., Rochester. There will be inflatables, caricatures, face-painting, crafts, laser tag, and more. Live music will entertain you as you spend your family time. There is a suggested donation of $10 per car.

The Great Pumpkin Parade

Thursday, Oct. 10: Head over to The Rotch-Jones-Duff House to see the grounds with a full display of Jack-O-Lanterns. Inside the mansion will be a scavenger hunt for the kids.  Cool Banana Wig performs, bringing kids up to play a variety of unique homemade instruments built by the band and refreshments will be served. The suggested donation for the event is $5 for individuals and $10 for a family.

Saturday, Oct. 12: Get ready for a day jam-packed with lively activities. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., play costume bingo, pumpkin bowling, learn Azorean dancing, and indulge in tasty treats. There will be entertainment including the Pirates of the Cape, photo ops, vendors, a costume party, and a parade. The Belonging Committee will return with a sensory-friendly safe space, where all ages and abilities can relax, color, play, make new friends, and explore. Admission is free at the Lawn of Visitors Center and Fairhaven High School,141 Main Street at Route 6, Fairhaven.

Saturday, Oct. 19:  Downtown New Bedford Inc. is hosting its annual free family event in downtown New Bedford. From noon to 5 p.m. downtown will be transformed into an Autumn wonderland with live music, Halloween performers, fall-themed activities for ages, and of course trick or treating for the kids.

Saturday, Oct. 28: It’s time for the annual Mattapoisett Lions Club Fall Free Family Fun Festival will be held at Shipyard Park, Mattapoisett. Tap into that fall vibe from noon to 4 p.m. with hay rides, face painting, goody bags, games, music, refreshments, a pumpkin patch, and more.
