fromis_9 To Part With PLEDIS Entertainment Agency By End Of 2024
Alongside shakeups with K-pop girl groups NewJeans and Loossemble, fromis_9 has also announced they will leave their agency, PLEDIS Entertainment, by the year’s end.
Just before the outfit would have reached their official seventh anniversary in late January, PLEDIS announced the future of fromis_9 on November 29 in the following announcement via the group’s Weverse fan community:
Hello.
This is PLEDIS Entertainment.
We would like to express our deepest gratitude to the fans who have loved fromis_9.
The exclusive contract with fromis_9 (Lee Sae Rom, Song Ha Young, Park Ji Won, Roh Ji Sun, Lee Seo Yeon, Lee Chae Young, Lee Na Gyung, Baek Ji Heon) will expire this coming December 31. We discussed at length and in depth with the members of fromis_9 regarding each member’s future and direction and have come to an amicable conclusion to end the exclusive artist contract.
fromis_9 joined us in August 2021 and presented a wide range of music including “Talk & Talk,” “DM,” “Stay This Way,” “#menow,” and “Supersonic” and have grown into artists who were not only loved by their fandom flover but many fans of K-pop. We would also like to thank fromis_9 who have always put their best foot forward and shown us a wide spectrum of different charms over the past seven years.
fromis_9 will release their fan song, which is their expression of their gratitude for their fandom flover, on December 23 and attend their final engagements, drawing a close to their official activities as PLEDIS Entertainment artists. We wholeheartedly support the future endeavors of fromis_9.
Thank you fans once again, for always being with fromis_9.
Please continue to send fromis_9 your unwavering love and support.
Thank you.
While fromis_9 joined PLEDIS Entertainment (the HYBE label home to powerhouse K-pop giant SEVENTEEN and the standout boy band TWS), the group was first established in 2017 through the reality competition show Idol School. Originally a nine-member act managed by Stone Music and Off the Record Entertainment (joint ventures with the entertainment division of Korean conglomerate CJ ENM), PLEDIS was a stronghold of support throughout their careers as the company’s then-CEO Han Sung-Soo oversaw the members trained at the agency and their debut.
While the group took a moment to break out with their success with initially fluctuating album sales, the girls managed to turn around their fortunes with PLEDIS with their first Number One hit (2021’s “Talk & Talk,” their first release under the agency after departing Off the Record) and growing album sales. fromis_9’s latest single, their beach-ready “Supersonic” single released this past August, was their biggest chart success yet, reaching No. 2 on the Circle Digital Chart and No. 10 on Billboard’s South Korean Songs chart. Even weeks after its release, the song became a long-standing streaming hit, reaching the Top 5 of Korea’s biggest streaming service, Melon, in October, even after official promotions for the song had wrapped.
While PLEDIS shared that fromis_9 will release a special song dedicated to their fans, affectionately known as flover, on December 23, not taking advantage of the lasting impact of “Supersonic” and seeing where the group could go after earning their first Top 10 single seems like a missed opportunity for future investment growth.
While the announcement does not share much about fromis_9’s future and where the group will head next — if they do not disband — the fan’s support for their last month under PLEDIS feels critical in ensuring a future together.
