Florida State football continues to monitor potential category 3 Hurricane Helene as the team prepares to travel to Dallas this weekend for its game at SMU.

The Seminoles (1-3) are scheduled to face the Mustangs (3-1) Saturday at 8 p.m. FSU head coach Mike Norvell said has plans to leave Tallahassee as the storm rapidly approaches.

He said the team will make adjustments to plans as needed. The Seminoles were scheduled to leave on Friday, but Norvell did not provide any specifics.

“We are still monitoring all things with the storm,” Norvell said. “We have tentative plans in place, and we have A,B and C. If anything needs to be adjusted we will go from there.”

The message is the same as what Norvell said after practice on Tuesday.

“Our thoughts with everybody that’s going to be affected,” Norvell said. “There are about impacted for a lifetime. We are praying everything goes as smoothly and as easily as possible for all that will be affected.

“The number one thing is the health and the well-being of this team and the staff and everyone that’s involved. We have our plans if we need to adapt and adjust.”

The Marching Chiefs announced Wednesday morning that, “out of an abundance of caution,” it had canceled the pep band’s bus trip to Dallas for the game.

Helene is expected to be a major hurricane when it makes landfall in the Big Bend region, with current models having it make landfall in the Tallahassee area Thursday night.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency for 41 of Florida’s 67 counties Monday, expanding the order to include 61 counties as of Tuesday afternoon.

FSU soccer’s game vs. Clemson was tentatively postponed until Friday at 7 p.m., previously scheduled for Thursday at 7 p.m. The Seminoles’ volleyball match against Miami on Wednesday was moved up from 7 p.m. to 6 p.m. as the school prepares for the impacts of the Helene.

FAMU announced Tuesday that its home SWAC opener against Alabama A&M Saturday at Bragg Memorial Stadium was rescheduled to Nov. 29.
