FSU vs. UNC: Preview, game thread, how to watch/listen

on

For the second time in three days, the Florida State Seminoles will be playing in a do-or-die game in the College World Series.

FSU sent Virginia home on Sunday with a complete performance in all three phases, winning 7-3 to earn the right to stay in Omaha. Jamie Ferrer led the way offensively with two homers as Carson Dorsey went over seven innings to keep a vaunted Cavaliers hitting lineup at bay and preserve the bullpen.

Next, the Noles take on the North Carolina Tar Heels in their second straight elimination game vs. an ACC opponent. Florida State is 73-38 overall (North Carolina says 72-39) when facing UNC, though the two haven’t faced off since 2022 (a Tar Heels sweep). FSU and UNC have met once before in the College World Series — 1989, where the Seminoles one 4-2 to eliminate UNC.

The winner faces Tennessee, where they’ll have to topple the Volunteers twice to advance to the College World Series championship round.

Awarded a No. 4 national seed, the Tar Heels needed a fourth game and a tenth inning to advance out of the Chapel Hill regional against LSU. They quickly dispatched West Virginia in two games and advanced to the winner’s bracket with a 2-1 win against the Cavaliers on a walk-off from All-ACC CF Vance Honeycutt. However, UNC only mustered one run against Vols ace Drew Beam as they lost to Tennessee 6-1.

Florida State and North Carolina’s elimination game is set to get underway at 2 p.m. ET, with the game to be broadcast on ESPN.
