FSU vs. Virginia: Preview, game thread, how to watch/listen

Published

on

Florida State Seminoles baseball went toe-to-toe with the number one team in the nation on Friday night, heading into the ninth inning with a three-run lead that slipped away at the last second.

The Seminoles were just one out away from an opening game victory until a ninth-inning rally from the Tennessee Volunteers provided a walk-off defeat.

The bullpen has been an Achilles heel for FSU all season and it unfortunately reared its head once again as the ‘Vols pushed across four runs in the ninth, winning 12-111 to force the Seminoles into the elimination game.

Up next, the Seminoles will face a familiar ACC opponent in the Virginia Cavaliers. Both teams will be battling to continue their season in a loser-goes-home matchup.

The Cavaliers won their super regional against the Kansas State Wildcats and lined up with the North Carolina Tar Heels in the first game of the College World Series.

The Cavaliers also experienced a walk-off defeat in their game.

FSU and Virginia faced off only once this year with the Seminoles winning 12-7 to advance in the ACC Tournament. Virginia will start Jay Woolfolk, who pitched two innings against FSU in the earlier matchup. The right-hander struck out three, allowing one run in that game.

Florida State vs. Virginia is set for a 2 p.m. ET start from Omaha, with the game set to be broadcast on ESPN.
