Gadsden sports park building new water system
GADSDEN, Ala. (WBRC) – The city of Gadsden is working on a plan to save thousands of your tax dollars. The Gadsden Sports Park will soon have its own water system. The park has been using water from the city’s main water system costing the city thousands of dollars.
The City of Gadsden is constructing a new water irrigation system for the Gadsden Sports Park. A plan approved by the city council will allow water to be drawn from the Coosa River, allowing the water to be used for the park and athletic fields.
Currently connected to the city’s main water supply, City Engineer Heath Williamson says this irrigation system is cheaper in the long run while saving the city thousands of dollars per month.
“We were initiating some additional phases of construction. We went ahead and discussed those or that timeline of what we needed to do to bring that on-board, of course he was all in and we started the process working with Alabama Power and going through the permits and the agreements and all the engineering that’s required, that gets us to where we are today,” says Williamson.
Depending when all of the parts to the pump arrive, Heath Williamson says this new water system should be completed no later than late summer or early fall.
